And here I always figured it would be my stories that got stolen. Of course, I can't really yell plagiarism because my icon is based on a screencap of a show I certainly don't own and all I did was crop it and add text, so I'm more amused than upset.

4:00am: WTF, LJ?!
In the midst of the kerfluffle about why two users were permanently banned from LiveJournal for posting pictures that were acknowledged not to be child porn or otherwise illegal or in violation of the TOS as it was understood at the time of posting, someone pointed out that there are comms such as proanorexia which by their very nature violate the TOS, to whit:

4:37pm: My Response to the "Apology"
I've already posted this in comments, but I'm including it here as well.

1) I'm sorry, but "interest" does not equal "I like..." I know many people who have an interest in politics. Few of them like politics. I know diabetics who have an interest in diabetes. Not one of them likes being diabetic or the disease itself. I know several parents of autistic children who are interested in autism. Not one of them likes autism. Any reasonable person with 2 minutes' thought could have come to the conclusion that "interest" and "I like..." are in no way synonymous. I don't care what the silly instructions say, you call the thing "interests" and not "likes".

2) No one should be accused of being a criminal, pedophile, or rapist based on a single word in their profile.

3) Your silence to your users for 2 days, while you went out of your way to speak to the media indicates exactly where we fall in your hierarchy-- dead last, after the media, your advertisers (anyone remember how the ads weren't going to affect our service at all?), the public-at-large, and outside pressure groups. Your customers are the life of your business. We deserve more consideration than you have shown us during the deletions, the silence, or in your lame excuse for an apology.

4) You want to convince me that you're seriously sorry? Give every single one of the wrongly-deleted journals permanent status for free, publicly apologise to them *with usernames* in order to unbesmirch the people you painted with such a vile brush, and provide them with the information as to whether they were deleted due to reporting by WfI or just caught in the LJ net so they know whether legal action against WfI for slander is appropriate.

5) Until and unless you can show that much remorse, I'm not giving you one more penny.

3:26am: Yes, They Have the Right...
...but what LJ has done in regards to personal LJs and comms that have been accused of promoting pedophilia without basis is stupid. A good many of these are fanfiction comms. Others are RP journals. A few are survivor groups (who I'm sure are thrilled to be accused of the very crime to which they were victims). One was a Spanish-language comm for reading and discussing Lolita by Nabokov.

I've already ranted at the accusers. I expect my comment will be deleted because they delete comments that don't agree with them-- so adult, yis.

A part of me wants to encourage all my many LJ friends to 1) make a sockpuppet or five with names like fic_isnt_crime or freedomtoread or wfi_apologise or the like; 2) include a huge list of crimes in the sockpuppets' interest list; 3) also put a disclaimer that you disapprove of and do not support, practice, etc., etc. any of the crimes listed, since this seems to be the basis of the suspensions; 4) post a single post linking to the offending reporting group and calling them all wankers and idiots; 5) click the link and encourage all your friends to go and click those links as well; 6) repost these instructions to your own LJ so all your friends can do it, too. And we'll just see if the idiots over at Warriors for Idiocy can Buy a Clue or if they'll report all the sockpuppets to LJ Abuse as well and whether LJ Abuse (acting on behalf of SixApart-- this isn't LJ Abuse's shindig, they're just following orders) will delete them.

The more mature me thinks I should be encouraging all my flist, especially those who are paid users, to protest this hamhanded and airheaded policy to SixApart, complete with threats to 1) terminate service and 2) write letters to advertisers threatening a boycott.

WfI applied pressure to the advertisers. We can do the same.

11:00am: Our Friend
Our friend C. mentioned in my previous post passed away Saturday around 7 PM. I apologise to those in chat to whom I didn't mention this, but there are times when you've just talked and thought and cried about a thing so much that you just can't anymore.

He leaves a wife and two young children.

1:02pm: Real Life: 2007 Sucks
Those of you in chat know some of the details. We have a friend, one of the hubby's best friends at church, a fellow-techie to the hubby (and in fact hubby has had to shoulder a lot of the tech jobs he held at church), and the father of Thing2's best friend. He was diagnosed with leukemia in January. He had a bone marrow match in his brother. The transplant of stem cells went smoothly. Then things fell apart, with the new white blood cells attacking his skin and bowels. He was hospitalised because they couldn't keep him hydrated. Dehydration due to excessive diarrhea is actually a very common way for these transplant patients to die. While he was there, a fungus infected his lungs. He's been non-responsive for a week now. We just got a call from his wife that he's not expected to live through the night.

He's been halfway gone for a week or so now. The other day he came out of his unconsciousness long enough to tell his wife he got to hold their stillborn baby girl in heaven. So, we've known this was probably coming, but, man, it just sucks.

This on top of my father-in-law dying in February... Is 2007 over yet?

Thus, the next title character by alpha order is John Sheppard!

So, if you were writing an SGA newbie guide, what would you say are the essential John gen and John/someone fics out there other than McKay/Sheppard and Sheppard/Weir (They'll get their own entries later), be that someone Beckett or Zelenka or Emmagan or Ford or, well, you get the idea? Your mission, should you choose to accept it, rec the essential fics featuring John, give a brief answer as to why, give us a link if you can, and give any caveats (you know, kinks not everyone shares, other pairings in the fic, those sorts of things).

I'm going to keep doing this till we're through the main cast, then go through the regularly-recurring characters, and then have a big post for all the other folks. So, keep those URLs handy! Also, for those who are wondering, gen Team fic is going to have its own post, but if it's OT4 feel free to rec it in any of the team members' posts. If it's gen, but focuses pretty exclusively on one member of the team, rec it in that character's post.

So, we opened nominations for the Stargate DiversiFICation Awards a couple weeks ago. There've been quite a few entries in the m/m category and a few in the f/f and poly categories. I'd like to see more in all of them, but especially the femmeslash category.

We had a couple of requests when people nominate fic as far as pairing names go-- 1) No squish names, 2) Use last names if last names are given in canon, and 3) Put them in alphabetical order.
